The lights dim in the area around the crowd in this Honolulu Hawaii road house. This gives a sense of anonymity for everyone attending the event. Stanley Fishman is standing the middle carrying a microphone wearing a fish themed aloha shirt and beige cargo pants, more casual attire than he is used to but still expensive nonetheless. He is surrounded by all the fighters on this card, about to give a speech in a style that is almost mocking Masakatsu Mamushi. Mr. Fishman glances over the crowd to get a feel for the demographic of the first event.
Stanley Fishman: Good evening ladies and gentlemen and please let me welcome you to the pilot show of Hawaiian Vale Tudo 1. Before we start I would just like to say a few words and hopefully be as brief as possible. This event has been in my dreams for a long time ever since seeing Rameau Ouedraogo compete in underground pitfights while I was staying in South Africa. However I want to bring a sense of technical acumen to the supposedly barbaric spectacle of vale tudo. My second goal was to bring a certain level of diversity in terms of martial arts background and bringing together fighters from across the globe, as The Black Rhino stated previously. I also hope to finally bring events like these into the main stream, and I have just the right amount of resources, financial and otherwise to do it. So even though the people here in attendance may be drunk and bloodthirsty I am sure someone will sit back and realize the possibilities of how far this style of combat will grow and evolve.
Stanley Fishman: Take it away Mr. Mann.
Eric Mann: Here we go our first fight of the evening.
Both fighters come storming out into the middle of the ring. Byrd starts by throwing one-two haymakers which cause Oetelaar to backpeddle up to the ropes and counter with a straight cross style stiff jab. Arjen sidesteps and throws a low kick, but Byrd continues to pursue Arjen and puts him back into the corner of the ring. He clinches with Arjen.
Eric Mann: Similar to his mentor Rameau Ouedraogo Byrd comes out swinging but has a different goal in mind. That is to use his judo skills and clinch at first.
Byrd throws a strong right hook to the body and follows up with a left uppercut straight to Arjen's jaw that rocks him. Byrd throws a wild elbow to the temple and grabs Arjen's right leg to try and take him down. Arjen wisely swims for a whizzer and then an underhook.
Eric Mann: The two are battling it out each trying to outwrestle the other! However Byrd has adapted those judo skills to instead throw punches and elbows while in the clinch, amazing. Arjen has the presence of mind though like a veteran to keep his balance.
Both men then go into a collar and elbow tie up but Arjen appears to be the superior one in this position being so much taller and keeping his weight on Byrd
Arjen fakes a takedown and instead goes for the thai plum. Arjen launches several knees to the body followed by a knee to the head which stuns Byrd. Byrd tries to recoverand escape, but as he moves forward, Arjen launches Byrd with a beautiful uchi mata .
Eric Mann: Oh my! An impressive display of judo technique by Arjen against someone who has experience in the gentle way no less!
Arjen intentionally lauches a knee straight to the groin of Byrd when he lands. Byrd writhes in pain while Arjen passes to side control.
Eric Mann: Arjen using a dirty move right there still here at HVT it is win at all costs, as long as you are not caught.
Arjen has Byrd locked up in a tight scarf hold. Arjen fakes for an armlock from the scarf hold and instead switches his hips beautifully and traps Byrd’s arm. He launches 12-6 elbows in the left side of Byrd’s face. Byrd manages to squirm and frees his arm. Byrd shrimps and manages to get into half guard. Byrd quickly shrimps again and gets into open guard. Arjen throws a flurry of punches but Byrd manages to grab his wrist and swings for an armbar. Arjen tries to slam and stomp Byrd but is unsuccessful so he resorts to using a technical escape. Byrd rolls back into open guard again and switches to a butterfly guard where he gets Arjen airborne. Arjen manages to surf and shuts down the legs of a disappointed Byrd. Arjen drives forward and headbutts the chest a couple of times. Oetelaar gets into side control again and this time locks onto a forearm choke. Byrd recognizes this and turns into Arjen and looks to grab the leg. Oetelaar however stays very heavy on utilizing his significant weight advantage. Arjen then begins to launch knees straight to the right temple. Arjen throws them quickly with authority in succession until finally Byrd stops moving.
The fight is over.
Arjen Van Den Oetelaar wins KO (Knees to the head on the ground)
Eric Mann: The boxer who is still refining his grappling skills Kevin McPhee taking on the mysterious nomadic brawler, the Black Rhino. This should be a great one for the fans.
A training montage is shown of McPhee getting thrown around like a rag doll and submitted by Aldous Hauser, Mad Mars, and various small Japanese newaza masters. McPhee however is showing a lot of heart and tenacity as stated by Aldous.
The Black Rhino storms out of the gate throwing haymakers before McPhee can even react. McPhee is clipped and tries to cover up while the Black Rhino keeps swinging wildly. McPhee keeps his composure and begins to move his head in an attempt to turn it into a boxing match. The Black Rhino steps back to think for a second and throws a hard but somewhat lacking in technique leg kick. McPhee then throws the gameplan out the window and throws two crisp hooks at the Black Rhino with the left connecting on the chin. The Black Rhino is wobbling and McPhee then throws a right uppercut which connects. The Rhino backs off and throws another wild right which McPhee dodges nicely, who has his hands down for some reason. McPhee's body is wide open and is hit with a left body kick from The Rhino. The Rhino comes in again and throws a hook but McPhee immediately counters with a lead hook to the body. The Rhino comes right back with a hard left though that absolutely rocks McPhee, who is now thinking takedown. He shoots for a fairly half hearted takedown attempt which is defended well by The Rhino.
Eric Mann: And the crowd is going wild for this fight!
McPhee tries to complete the takedown by locking up The Rhino's leg but instead resorts to pulling guard. McPhee tries to get under The Rhino's centre of gravity but he has this scouted and bases out hard. Rhino wraps a headlock around McPhee who manages to shrimp his way back into guard. McPhee throws a half hearted triangle attempt which is defended by The Rhino who crushes the legs of McPhee down to the mat. This was a tactical move by McPhee however who pushes off of The Rhino as soon as he continues to drive forward for a better position and gets back to his feet. The Rhino comes in again and throws a spinning backfist which cracks McPhee, getting a reaction from the crowd. The Rhino comes in again and follows it up with a crisp one-two punch combination and cleans McPhee's clock knocking him out cold. McPhee didn't see any of this coming since his eyes had already started to swell up.
The Black Rhino wins via KO (Punches)
