The same RPing requirements apply to Hawaiian Vale Tudo as they did in Pancrase and now in UJSW.
What is Vale Tudo?
From Wikipedia paraphrased
Translated from Portuguese it means "anything goes" or "no rules", which is pretty self-explanatory. This style of combat originated in Brazil in circuses during the 1920s. However it is mostly known as the early avenue for the famous Gracie family to showcase their style/prove its superiority over other ones to everyone in Brazil at the time as some of these fights were broadcast on Brazilian television. These fights didn't remain on television for long however and were soon relegated to being behind closed doors in martial arts dojos and small gymnasiums. During this time a rivalry between Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Luta Livre (a style which has origins in wrestling or a Brazilian wrestling style, and the esportiva variation has similiarities with catch and shoot wrestling utilizing submissions and striking as well though due to the freestyle nature of the art you could expect just about anything from the practitioners) and from my own knowledge of vale tudo this rivalry seems to also have class related roots as well with BJJ being for the rich and luta livre the poor. Riots would also sometimes occur (see Renzo Gracie vs. Eugenio Tadeu Pentagon Combat - Pentagon Combat 9/27/1997 Brazil)
In 1993, Rorion Gracie founded the UFC, and after this vale tudo became more popular worldwide particularily in Japan and a resurgence in Brazil where the WVC and IVC were founded and were essentially in Brazilian mainstream culture at the time. These organizations launched the careers of many famous MMA stars.
Today you might as well consider vale tudo dead with the introduction of the Unified Rules of MMA, though there might be some underground events.
Vale tudo fighters came from just about any martial arts background Brazilian jiu jitsu, muay thai, sambo, judo, boxing and wrestling are notable examples.
Equipment
There are no restrictions on what you can wear compared in today's MMA. You fight bare knuckled and hand tape is optional.
Gi's, speedos, vale tudo style shorts, board shorts, boxing shorts, muay thai shorts, shirts, and shoes can all be worn, feel free to use your imagination.
Cups and mouthguards are also optional.
Time limits
traditionally vale tudo had no time limits but since this is a UJSW/Pancrase developmental league the following time limits are in effect.
Regular Bouts: One 15 minute round
Title Bouts: One 30 minute round
Rules
-Any kind of elbow is allowed whether it be standing, on the ground, back of the head or 12-to-6.
-Headbutts are also legal
-Knees, kicks, and stomps to the head on the ground are legal
-Eye gouges are illegal (debatable as Igor Vovchanchyn lost to a chin to the eye once)
-Fish hooks, pinching flesh, or sticking your fingers or toes in any orifice is illegal
-I havn't come to a conclusion yet on strikes to the groin though I think what Gary Goodridge did to The Pedro should be illegal (grabbing the testicles)
-Hair pulling is illegal
-Strikes to the throat are illegal though I think rape chokes should be legal
-Spiking the head is legal
-Kidney strikes are legal
-If a participant gets caught in the ropes, he is stood back up on the feet.
-If there is inactivity on the ground the referee has a right to stand the fighters back up to their feet.
I believe that covers it, fallin can correct me on any possible mistakes.
Mentoring System,"Tester" fighters, and No Holds Barred Shootfighting gyms
These are three concepts created by Stanley Fishman himself. The mentoring system works as 1 member of the Pancrase Rebirth dojo will be assigned to work technique privately with the fighter who is mentored. Current mentors are the following
Anton DeJonge
Aldous Hauser
Tome Morais
Rameau Ouedraogo
Augusto Korda
Any fighter who joins Hawaiian Vale Tudo may choose one of those 5 mentors to personally coach them on their martial arts journey.
No Holds Barred Shootfighting gyms are established when a member of Pancrase Rebirth chooses to authorize the creation of a gym. They teach Shoot Wrestling techniques that are designed and modified for vale tudo competition. Any shoot wrestling technique which isn't effective in vale tudo is eliminated from the gym curriculum. By the time these fighters enter the Pancrase Rebirth Dojo or UJSW they will have a base level of technique.
"Tester" fighters are typically veterans who have either lately fallen on hard times in the former Pancrase and current UJSW, or are simply lower rung fighters. More information shall be posted later.
Current "Tester" level fighters
Vince Cecchine
Fabio Zulick
